New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday

Wohoo, this year has been a great year for my music loving self from 8 years ago. I have been able to see so many bands this year that got me through high school and getting to hear Taking Back Sunday and New Found Glory in one hit was just damn exciting!

The lighting was absolute poo, but who cares! I got to see Liar (It Takes One To Know One) being performed. I had the members of New Found Glory leaning over me to reach the crowd. Even in my unenthused I’d-rather-be-at-home-catching-up-on-anime state I was pretty happy to be there. Unfortunately, I didn’t realise this until afterwards so I didn’t stay to enjoy the night.

Oh well, mistakes happen.

Zappa Plays Zappa at The Palace

I love Frank Zappa. It’s all thanks to my Dad and his cranking up of the stereo volume so he could sing loudly along to Dinah Moe Humm  when I was too young to understand what was being said in the lyrics.

I have been to a Zappa Plays Zappa gig before, back in 2007 I believe, and I remember only recognising 2 songs out of the entire 3 hour set. Love his music, hadn’t collected many of his albums at that point (in all fairness, I didn’t even know where to start!). Still, regardless of my lack of knowledge, I still loved the music, even if the guitar solos of Steve Vai got a bit much to bear.

This performance seemed a lot more toned down, although it was still spectacular. Dweezil is a machine on that guitar, looking every bit his father sans moustache.

It felt being weird being alone in the photographer pit, but I sure did love having the space to stretch and calculate my shot, a huge change from say Marilyn Manson at Soundwave.

Earth, Wind and Fire at The Palais

It’s Boogie Wonderland!

Seriously. They opened with that song, clearly setting the night’s gauge to ‘PARTY!’

Falling into the category of ‘oh my god, you’re shooting them, really?!’ Earth, Wind and Fire performed at The Palais last Wednesday night, April 4th. I have to admit, it’s hard to deny a good EWF tune every now and then. The gig was not a gig for photographers, being shoved to the sides and only allowed for two songs makes for grumpy faces and a many under the breath moan. Oh well you do what you can.
